‘Right away as I began reading these devotionals it struck me that they are much like Spurgeon’s, and that for one simple reason: Iain (like Spurgeon) has a mind and heart saturated with the whole content of Scripture.’ — G.I. WILLIAMSON

Book Description

How much can we know about God?

By definition, the finite mind cannot comprehend the infinite. As soon as we begin to think we have understood something of the love and grace of God we soon learn from Scripture that his love and grace are even greater.

The meditations in God is Always Better Than We Can Imagine are intended to help us come to Scripture with the mindset that, no matter how much we have learned in our private studies, or heard in sermons and lectures, God is always immeasurably greater than our imagination has allowed.

An absolute joy, one of the best devotionals that I have read to date and God placed it in my hands at the perfect time. I read this during my first month of lockdown and it was simply uplifting and the refreshment that my soul needed. This is not like the majority of daily devotionals that I have read, rather each day is a short chapter (about 7-8 pages) and it works through the Bible in order of the listing of the books. Each day the focus is on the greatness of God and a reminder that He is greater than our thoughts can imagine. This isn’t a book of heavy theology, however it does require commitment and not simply a quick glance. The readings are from a modern translation (ESV I think, but not 100% sure) however the author’s fondness to the AV is clear as he often quotes from it or refers back to it. I wouldn’t recommend this simply to a mature converted Christian, it is suitable for any Christian regardless of their maturity, but especially to those who may be feeling low or have had providence go against them lately. I would also recommend this to somebody who is earnestly seeking as this would give them extra encouragement.

Overall a highly recommended book, I would like to see more of these extended devotionals in the market.

This is a wonderfully rich and practical little book. The devotionals stir you up to reflect upon the remarkable love and amazing grace of our great God. This book will help you grow in your knowledge of God, and it will ultimately lead you to worship. I was encouraged, challenged, and corrected.
