Scotland’s 18th-century religious revival will ever be associated with Cambuslang, a parish near Glasgow, where in March 1742 ‘a spark of grace set the kingdom on a blaze’. For long years prior to that time, as a contemporary wrote, ‘Many Christians were tempted to think that the Holy Spirit’s mighty operations upon the souls of men, by the preaching of the gospel, belonged only to the first ages of Christianity’.<\/p>\n
