John Byl is a creation scientist with specializations and interests in Galactic Astronomy, Theoretical Physics, Applied Mathematics, Science & Technology, and Christian Worldview. Since 2009 he has been a professor emeritus at Trinity Western University, Langley, British Columbia, where he began in 1978, took over as chair of the department of Mathematical Sciences in 1980 and received his full professorship in 1985.
He obtained his B.Sc. degree in Mathematics from the University of British Columbia in 1969 and gained his Ph.D. in Astronomy from the same institution in 1973. Dr. Byl’s research interests are in astronomy (celestial mechanics, cosmology), physics (special relativity), computing (cellular automata), mathematics (infinite tasks), and the interaction between science and religion. In recent years the focus of his research has shifted to philosophical and theological issues related to the foundations of mathematics, physics and cosmology.
John Byl was born in The Hague, Netherlands, in 1949 and is now a Canadian citizen. He is married and has six children and four grandchildren. He is an elder in the Canadian Reformed Church. He is the author of God and Cosmos: A Christian View of Time, Space, and the Universe (2001) and The Divine Challenge: On Matter, Mind, Math & Meaning (2004), both published by the Trust.
