Rev. Juan S. Boonstra was a minister of the Christian Reformed Church and broadcast the church’s Spanish-language programmes to Latin America for 26 years (1965-92). Called ‘La Hora de la Reforma,’ they were carried by almost 400 radio stations there.
A native of Tres Arroyos, Argentina, Juan Boonstra graduated in 1954 from the Calvin Seminary in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He first served the Reformed Church of Argentina in Comodoro Rivadavia (1954-61), a small church whose members were scattered over hundreds of miles. After missionary work in the United States (1961-64), he commenced the radio work for which he is noted. He participated in many evangelistic camps and conferences for Latin Americans.
Dr. Boonstra received an honorary doctorate from John Calvin Seminary in Mexico in 1983. He died at his home in Hebron, Indiana, aged 69, in 1995.
