Review: Christian Marriage

Category Book Reviews
Date June 28, 2012

The book is made up of eleven sermons from volume six of Dr Lloyd-Jones Ephesians series first published in 1973.

I found this a challenge to read, not just because of the subject matter but because of the dense arguments that Dr Lloyd-Jones is propounding. No doubt the original listeners, who heard one sermon at a time, were enthralled by his arguments and had their attention held by his delivery.

Dr Lloyd-Jones uses Paul’s teaching to show how marriage should be. How the wife must behave to her husband and how the husband must behave towards the wife. There is no choice in these matters. Lloyd-Jones is absolutely positive about this and goes on to relate the belief of the church being ‘the bride of Christ’ to the marriage state and what that means to true believers, stressing the obligations and rewards that this implies.

This thought provoking preaching is worthy of deep consideration.
