A review by Jim Eshelman of Media Gratiae’s multimedia presentation Logic on Fire: The Life and Legacy of Dr Martyn Lloyd-Jones.1

Who was Dr. David Martyn Lloyd-Jones?

If you have never read the official biography of ‘The Doctor’ by Iain Murray, or if it has been over 30 years since you have read that biography, and especially the first volume of the two-volume set,2 you MUST get this DVD set from the Banner of Truth and take the time to watch it.

The story will bring a thrill to your heart and tears to your eyes as you become absorbed in this splendid moulding and blending of the testimonies of a number of individuals, along with footage and photos of the Lloyd-Jones family confirming the life and legacy of ‘The Doctor.’

Some of the men and women in this DVD are those whom you know personally; others you have heard of, and still others you will never have heard of: Iain Murray, Sinclair Ferguson, Geoffrey Thomas, Ian Hamilton, Lady Elizabeth Catherwood, R. C. Sproul, John MacArthur, Ligon Duncan, Kevin DeYoung, along with many others.

The testimonies recount the life of ‘The Doctor’ from his birth and early life in Wales, through his entry into the medical profession in London, his call to be a minister of the gospel and the preaching of that gospel in Wales, and his removal to Westminster Chapel in London.

His preaching is examined and analyzed and it is from this that the title of the DVD is derived: Logic on Fire.

In addition to this basic presentation the DVD includes interviews with the Lloyd-Jones family, a 128-page book with photographs, unpublished sermons, other memorabilia, the story of the Westminster Fellowship, and much more.

To quote the blurb on the DVD,

Logic on Fire examines Lloyd-Jones’ home life, his spiritual influences, the emphasis he brought to his two pastorates, the way he sought a union of ‘logic’ and ‘fire’ in preaching, as well as his continued relevance and influence in conservative evangelicalism today.
