Douglas F. Kelly

Dr. Douglas F. Kelly is Richard Jordan Professor of Theology at Reformed Theological Seminary, Charlotte, North Carolina. He is a native of Lumberton, North Carolina, and received his B.A. from the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill), Diploma from the University of Lyon, his B.D. from Union Theological Seminary (Richmond, Virginia) and his Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh (1973).

He was ordained into the Presbyterian ministry in 1968 and served as minister of First Presbyterian Church in Dillon, South Carolina from 1973-1981. Since then he has served as a professor of theology at Reformed Theological Seminary, first at the Jackson campus, and since 1994 at the campus in Charlotte.

Douglas Kelly is author of a number of books of both theological and also historical/genealogical interest, including If God Already Knows, Why Pray?, Preachers with Power: Four Stalwarts of the South (Banner of Truth, 1992), New Life in the Wasteland, Creation and Change, and The Emergence of Liberty in the Modern World. His firm grasp of multiple languages and his theological competence are capably demonstrated in the translation such works as Calvin’s Sermons on 2 Samuel (Banner of Truth, 1992). He served with David Wright of the University of Edinburgh as a general editor for a revision of Calvin’s Old Testament Commentaries.

Before joining the faculty at RTS, Dr. Kelly travelled extensively throughout the world preaching and teaching. He was also enlisted to serve on the Jurisprudence project of The Christian Legal Society and serves on the Credentials Committee of the Central Carolina Presbytery.

In 1973 Douglas Kelly married Caroline Switzer of Cambridge, England, and they have five children.
