Professor Stuart Piggin, BA, BD, Dip.Ed., PhD, AKC, D.Litt is Director of the Centre for the History of Christian Thought and Experience at Macquarie University, Sydney, NSW, Australia.
He is a graduate of the universities of Sydney and London and of the Melbourne College of Divinity. He tutored in Ecclesiastical History at the University of London, King’s College, and lectured in Religious History in the Universities of Wollongong and Sydney from 1974 to 1990. He was Master of Robert Menzies College, Macquarie University, from 1990 to 2004, the founding Director of the Macquarie Christian Studies Institute, and the founding Chairman of the Australian Christian Heritage Foundation.
Dr Piggin’s academic interests include the nature of spiritual experience and of religious revival, the history of the church, with special reference to the history of evangelicalism and missions, and the human impact of natural and man-made disasters. He has written over 100 articles for academic journals and seven books, including The Mount Kembla Disaster (1992) and Evangelical Christianity in Australia (1996), both published by Oxford University Press, and Firestorm of the Lord (2000), a study of revival, published by Paternoster Press. In 1985, with John Roxborogh, he authored The St Andrews Seven: The Finest Flowering of Missionary Zeal in Scottish History, published by the Trust.
Stuart lectures in early and modern church history for the School of Christian Studies at Robert Menzies College and has lectured on the history of Christian Spirituality at Macquarie University.
