Book Description

Richard Sibbes (1577-1635), one of the most influential figures in the Puritan movement during the earlier years of the seventeenth century, was renowned for the rich quality of his ministry. The Bruised Reed shows why he was known among his contemporaries as ‘the sweet dropper.’

Of all Richard Sibbes’ works, The Bruised Reed has probably had the most enduring impact. It is an exposition of Matthew’s application to Jesus of the description of the Servant of the Lord in Isaiah 42:3 (Matt. 12:20). Sibbes’ wonderfully sensitive treatment has ministered to generations of Christians since its first publication in 1630.

This book opened my eyes to the rich and glorious truth found in Isaiah 42:3 – “…a bruised reed he will not break,and a faintly burning wick he will not quench …”

Yes, JESUS alone is our COMFORTER! He will tenderly and carefully care for us even in the depths of the bruises, pain, and exhaustion we suffer as a result of our own sin and the sin of the world.

With great care and intentional words, Sibbes expounds on how God comforts his elect and brings them closer to Himself through various trials.

This book is an excellent resource for all the saints!

This book was given to my by a friend and helped me very much after recovering from a long period of being lost in my life.
