Book Description

Most evangelical Christians know of Matthew Henry’s Commentary on the Bible, but few are as familiar with his A Method for Prayer, with Scripture Expressions Proper to Be Used under Each Head. This work consists almost entirely of Scripture, arranged under various headings, to help Christians to pray in harmony with the truth of God, revealed in his Word. First published three hundred years ago, it has been revised and updated by O. Palmer Robertson to allow the language of prayer to be expressed in today’s idiom. It is sent out in the confidence that God will continue to honour his own Word, as it is redirected back to him in the form of heartfelt prayer.

One of the most helpful books I own, it is devotional rich and theological deep; and of course, nearly straight Scripture, placing it into tangible ways to pray it.

I’ve had the pleasure of corresponding with O. Palmer Robertson directly to thank him for undertaking the task of updating Matthew Henry’s work for today’s reader. I have used this book literally dozens of times for leading prayer at our church, in our youth group, as well as in personal and family devotions. Are you stuck in your prayer life? Let Robertson – echoing Henry – lift your spirits by praying the very words of scripture. A priceless volume.

  3. Tom Pfeil

Powerful, Awesome, Weighty. I keep this very close to my Bible, for in it are arranged prayers from Scripture arranged topically. Henry weaves the OT with the NT to compile these prayers, teaching us that our heart’s longings and requests are found in God’s word, for He knows our hearts!

    This is a MUST purchase!
