‘Now the doors of your John Owen ‘library’ are open. Choose a volume. You can start anywhere; you will find biblical insight, wisdom, and personal help everywhere. And perhaps this little box set of the Treasures of John Owen will one day be part of your own spiritual heirloom…’ — SINCLAIR B. FERGUSON
Book Description
In recent decades, several of Owen’s works have been edited and published in paperback format to make them more readily accessible for Christians in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. Now, in this beautifully produced box set — the Treasures of John Owen — they are being republished in hardback format arranged in five volumes. Within this box set readers will find themselves entering a world of biblical, doctrinal, pastoral and spiritual instruction that is not only accessible to them, but also leads them into a fresh understanding of the greatness of the gospel — what Paul describes as the four-dimensional love of God for us in Christ (‘breadth and length, height and depth’) — and its many practical implications. Here then is a collection of books designed to enable us to grow in both knowledge and grace.

This 5 volume box set includes the following 10 titles by John Owen — abridged and sympathetically modernized for today’s reader:

@diveindigdeep –
What is the legacy that John Owen leaves us? The Treasures of John Owen Box Set includes 10 titles in 5 volumes, presenting the best and most beloved works by John Owen.
Beautiful Books
The books are: The Spirit and the Church, Duties of Christian Fellowship, Communion With God, The Mortification of Sin, The Holy Spirit, Temptation: Resisted and Repulsed, The Glory of Christ, Searching Our Hearts in Difficult Times, Indwelling Sin in Believers, and Apostasy from the Gospel. These are beautiful books that are given the heirloom treatment, with gold trim and dark green covers.
The premium quality of this set is quite fitting for Owen’s works. Two books in particular stand out in these formats that read differently in a hardback. Duties of Christin Fellowship includes questions for consideration/discussion, serving as a guide for journaling and interacting with the text. The question/answer sections of Searching Our Hearts in Difficult Times has a reference-quality flavor that is elevated in this arrangement.
Inspiring and Encouraging
The handsome set features Smyth Sewn cloth binding, ribbon markers, and is packaged with a 32-page booklet introduction from Sinclair Ferguson. Ferguson gives a masterful overview of Owen’s life with a look into the background of the books. I was most interested to learn how Owen’s sermons were preserved by way of shorthand writing, as well as how a man named Robert Law did his own unsolicited work of starting the Puritan Paperback series by simplifying and making Owen’s sermons easy to read.
The books are abridged and modernized for today’s readers. This set is labeled as a “library” and rightly so, for these books are worth keeping and revisiting. There are riches to mine on every page. There is glory to be seen, and sin to be mortified. This box set is a leaves a legacy of John Owen, representing a Puritan tradition that still inspires and encourages us today.
I received a media copy of the Treasures of John Owen Box Set and this is my honest review.
Alan Haskins –
The Treasures of John Owen is an excellent box set of 5 volumes which combine 2 titles each. They are beautifully produced with green ribbon marker and will greatly enhance your collection.
Banner, of course, have published a 16 volume set of The Works of John Owen, which are also highly recommended. You may not have the room for so big a collection, so this 5 volume set is a good investment.
If you are like me, your paperback editions of John Owen are in pristine condition but even with careful handling these books will eventually lose their good looks. Banner have done us a great service by producing this beautiful set that will stand up well to much use.
You need to take time reading Owen as he diligently searches out the relevant scriptures, teasing out every truth in his subject. You will want to re-read his works and return to them often. Although cleverly written, they are not mere academic exercises but works that excite and inspire the sanctified mind and set our hearts at liberty to worship and adore the God of our salvation. The tri-une God who purposed, planned and accomplished salvation for the elect.
In my opinion, you won’t read better instruction on Communion with the Almighty, the Glory of Christ, Sanctification, Indwelling sin and the mortification of it.
This box set will enhance your library but it’s not an ornament. Buy it, read it and let your soul feed on the wonderful truths expounded in it, then reach out in adoration and praise to the Most High God and serve Him with gladness and thanksgiving.
