Book Description
More than anything else, Richard Sibbes was a great preacher. He never lost sight of the fact that the best Christian counselling is done through the patient and enlivening exposition of the Word of God. Sibbes excelled as a comforter of the troubled and doubting, but he also possessed the rare gift of illuminating every passage of Scripture he handled by drawing out its significance for his hearers and readers. The republication of the Nichol edition of his complete works is a notable event for all who have an appetite for helpful and faithful biblical preaching.

Mark Dever –
The Works of Richard Sibbes are one of the most valuable sets of writings combining careful understanding of Scripture, and especially of the Gospel, with heart-felt piety. The warmth of his affections for God were fueled by his clear understanding of God’s grace in Christ. I commend this set to you. It has been, and continues to be, a treasure in my life, with all the volumes well-worn.
Matthew Sullivan –
I bought my set about two years ago and haven’t really put it down this whole time. Maybe no one has impacted my love for and relationship with Jesus as much as Sibbes. I’m sure I’ll be reading and re-reading this set til I die.
Benjamin Hegan –
Sibbes is my favourite Puritan by a long way. I read “The Bruised Reed” in the Puritan Paperbacks series and the warmth, faithfulness to Scripture, and clear setting forth of Christ from an Old Testament passage was incredible. Simple exposition of Scripture with no stories is what you will get from Sibbes. Sibbes was a very Godly man, and you could do much worse than reading him. Such a clear, warm setting forth of Christ will warm your heart, draw you near to the Lord, and lead to high Theology, thus high doxology in worship and prayer. Like nectar to the soul – super comforting because it brings home the reality of being in Christ in all its fulness. And I’ve only dipped in and out of a couple of sections of it. Excellent works by Sibbes. I’m eternally grateful for the Banner’s publishing of these works. They’re simple fantastic. I may never get through all of them fully in this life, but I know that the Lord uses Sibbes to lead my closer to Christ through His Word by the power of His Spirit. Praise the Lord for faithful men like Sibbes, for the Banner of Truth, and for Christ!
