Endorsement

‘Sometimes a book comes unhyped and unheralded and takes me by storm, and such is the case with The Cross He Bore by Frederick Leahy. Whenever I read it, and I have read it again and again, I am often compelled to stop and worship, to stop and meditate, or to stop and dry my eyes, thanking Christ for His immeasurable sacrifice. This little book is a true treasure.’ — TIM CHALLIES

Book Description

Frederick Leahy spent a lifetime in the ministry of the Word. In these pages, preacher, pastor and theologian come together in a happy unity. No words are wasted. There is nothing of the frothy and insubstantial. Here is satisfying truth, painstakingly quarried and crafted for the needs of God’s people. A judicious selection of gems from the writings of others provides further enrichment and stimulus to thought.

A great short book that focuses on the sacrifice of Christ. Leahy gives insights that I have not heard before.

The line that touched my heart the most was “Lord, forgive us for the times we have read about Gethsemane with dry eyes.” This book cannot be read with dry eyes.

    Highly recommended

A wonderful book on the sufferings of Christ. I’ve bought about 6 copies and have given them all out to friends.

Whenever a book is recommended, you often hear the recommender say that ‘this is the best book I have ever read!’ Well, I was first introduced to The Cross He Bore at the 2024 Banner of Truth Ministers’ Conference. During one of the sessions, Leahy’s book was warmly and strongly recommended. After the session, I eagerly went to the bookstore and picked up a copy. Having read it now, I am eternally grateful for this little gem! I can honestly say that this is the best book I have read, thus far, on the sufferings of Christ. Each page of this book is really a tear-stained page. The truths found in this book will lead you to great depths of sorrow over your sin that nailed Christ to the tree. But it will not leave you there! This book will bring you to great heights of gratitude and thanksgiving, theology and doxology! With Martin Luther, you will be left saying, ‘This is true. We are all beggars.’ With Toplady, we will continually sing, ‘A debtor to mercy alone, of covenant mercy I sing!’
